Sobre todo, agradezco la comunidad de barrio Acahualinca por estar entusiasmada de compartir sus historias. Un sinnúmero de gente de la comunidad me contó se sintió engañado por “extranjeros” que solo querían enriquecerse de la mala suerte de la comunidad de churequeros:
“….son personas de otros países que solo vienen para tomar fotos, solo vienen a dar una alegría por un momento pero ya después desaparecen y no los vuelvo a ver…no regalan nada…ellos se van para lucrar de nosotros…” -Mujer, 32 años, vecino de La Chureca
Sí, soy extranjero, pero espero que la comunidad me mire como “compañero” en su lucha para un mejor vida y un mejor futuro. A causa de los comentarios como lo de arriba, no tomé fotos ni videos de los participantes. En algunos casos, los participantes me dieron unos fotos, y con su permiso, lo puse en este sitio. Entregué una copia de la colección de los testimonios a cada uno de las personas que entrevisté. Tambien, entregué una copia a los archivos nacionales de UCA para preservar la historia de la comunidad.

Above all, I thank the Barrio Acahualinca community for being enthusiastic to share their personal stories with me. A number of people told me that they felt taken advantage of by “foreigners” that only wanted to get rich from the bad luck of the churequero community:
“…they are people from other countries that only come to take pictures, they only come to give happiness for a moment but then afterwards they disappear and I don’t see them again…they don’t gift anything…they leave to make money off of us…” –Woman, 32 years old, resident of La Chureca
Yes, I am a foreigner, but I hope that the community looks at me as a compañero in their fight for a better life and better future. Because of comments like the one above, I did not take photographs or videos of the participants. In some cases, the participants gave me photographs, and with their permission, I put them on this website. I returned a copy of the collection of oral histories to each one of the persons that I interviewed. Also, I gave one copy to the archives at the UCA to preserve the history of the community.
